HISTORIC COURTHOUSE RENOVATION

Mobile, AL  |  115,000 square feet |   June 2020

SIRIS and APSI (prime) provided project construction management for the design, construction, and commissioning stages of the first phase of this design-build project and are currently providing the same services for Phase II.  The new courthouse building achieved LEED Gold and met GSA Design Excellence standards and the repair and alteration of the historic courthouse building are on track to achieve the same.  The total construction value for both phases is $114 million.  Design phase services provided include design reviews and code compliance reviews.  Construction phase services included on-site project management, document control, quality control, commissioning, and scheduling.  Our team also coordinated and managed the transition phase of the project for the tenant occupancy of the building and vacancy of the existing John A. Campbell Courthouse.

Phase I New Courthouse - The new, 5-story, $75 million, LEED Gold courthouse is 155,000 square feet and houses the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama and includes 6 courtrooms, 9 judges’ chambers, district court clerk’s offices, US Marshals Service (USMS) offices and secure prisoner facilities, US Attorney offices, and a grand jury suite.   This project was completed on schedule, within budget and had no claims.

Phase II Repair and Alteration - The John A. Campbell US Courthouse was built in 1932 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 5-story, 115,015 sf renovated courthouse will accommodate the Court of Appeals, Bankruptcy Court, US Probation, Congressional offices, and General Services Administration (GSA). This $39 million project includes renovations to the courthouse, 4 courtrooms and 5 judges’ chambers. Design began January 2, 2017 and construction was completed in June 2020.

March 2020 CPARS performance review include “Exceptional” ratings in quality, schedule and management.
